First Descent started in Bad Gastein in 1996, built around a simple passion for skiing and life in the mountains. What began as a small local ski shop has grown and evolved over the years, shaped by countless winters, new ideas and a constantly changing ski scene. Along the way, we’ve moved locations several times, expanded what we offer and developed our knowledge, but skiing has always remained at the heart of what we do.
Today, First Descent is a ski and snowboard rental, shop and workshop for everyone from first-time visitors to dedicated freeriders. We combine decades of experience in Bad Gastein with carefully selected equipment, professional advice and the kind of local knowledge that only comes from spending a lot of time on the mountain. A lot has changed since 1996, but the idea behind First Descent is still the same: good gear, great service and helping people get more out of their time on snow.
